BTS’ New Logo
On June 5th, 2017, BTS released an official video of their new logo, not only BTS’ but also ARMYs’ (their fandom) as below. If we inverse the ARMY’s logo, it will be matched with BTS’ logo as below. After the video was released, BTS made an official statement through their official Twitter account, “I really like the new BI [Brand Identity]. I can’t wait to show you. Above all, us and army becoming one together have so much meaning that it makes us feel good,” as translated by Allkpop. https://twitter.com/BTS_twt/status/882445187863072768 According to Koreaboo, the new logos represent the boys’ walking through the doors from the present to their future. After they go through the door, they will meet the ARMY who represents their boyish image. The two logos of BTS and ARMY are meant to be connected as harmony between the past and the present. Their agency, Big Hit Entertainment, revealed that the final logo was created after consulting with top design and research firms. “We defined and visualized the universal combination of BTS’ album concepts and activities throughout time in a futuristic concept,” they said. Starting from then, all the merchandise and stuff related to BTS have been branded with the new logo.
Rebranding as Beyond The Scene
As they changed their official logo, many thought that they changed their name too. It was speculated after hearing RM’s voice phrasing “Beyond The Scene” at the end of the introductory video. Considering it could be an acronym of BTS too, it was not a surprise many jumped to the conclusion. Well, they were not totally wrong as it is really meant to be an acronym of BTS as the group confirmed. Yet it doesn’t mean the group name changed. BTS originally stood for Bangtan Sonyeondan (Hangul: 방탄소년단) or literally meaning Bulletproof Boy Scouts. As they started being recognized worldwide, they decided to add another acronym to their name to Beyond The Scene without eliminating their Korean name. So BTS now has two different meanings. Even though it was explained, fans had many reactions to their new additional name on Twitter. Here are some of their reactions!
